Sex and Somatic Therapy
Are you struggling with low sexual desire or arousal? Do you have trouble getting or maintaining erections? Do you find that it takes “forever” to reach orgasm, or that you plateau before you do? Or perhaps there’s pain during penetration or orgasm?

Sexual difficulties are very common and are nothing to be ashamed of. They are often a symptom of another mental health issue (depression, anxiety) or reflective of an underlying health problem (diabetes, cancer, substance use). Fortunately, they are very treatable.

In sex therapy, we look at your history of sexual experiences and messages learned, your sexual likes and dislikes, your repertoire and techniques, your associated thoughts and feelings, and most importantly, your embodied experiences and connection to your body. Each of these elements will be explored with a focus on promoting sex positive, pleasure enhancing and value aligned experiences, and on reducing anxiety, shame and self consciousness.
Holistic sessions will involve a combination of talk and body-based (somatic) techniques, bringing you into the present moment to rewire somatosensory experiences as they occur. A focus will be placed on sensation, impulses and instincts with the aim of discharging any stored trauma, establishing boundaries (yeses and no’s), and connecting you with your true sexual nature.
Session modalities include standard talk therapy, somatic therapy, and combined talk and somatic therapy. Private trauma informed yoga and mindfulness sessions are also available as skill builders to enhance the effect of sex and somatic therapy work, in and out of session!
