TONYA STEAD

Tonya is a registered member of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). She earned a Master of Science in Communication from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Linguistics from York University. Tonya also holds
a college diploma in Sign Language Communications (American Sign Language) from St. Clair College.

Tonya is a pediatric speech-language pathologist and has been working with infants, toddlers and children for over 15 years. She has been fortunate to have worked in the public sector in provincial Preschool Speech and Language Programs, Children’s Treatment Centres and hospitals. She has proven herself successful in the organization and facilitation of a variety of programs while simultaneously developing her clinical skills in the areas of receptive and expressive language, articulation, phonology, motor speech, resonance, social communication
and play. Tonya has had a long career working in neonatal follow-up clinics, including the McMaster Children’s Hospital Neonatal Follow-Up Team in Hamilton, monitoring and providing early intervention for high-risk infants with varying diagnoses. Tonya’s passion is in the preschool population with a strong knowledge base in early childhood development (particularly birth to three) and supporting children and families during this critical stage. Tonya understands
how experiences children and families have starting at birth, even prenatally, affect lifelong outcomes.
Tonya enjoys spending her time reading, cooking, hiking with her dog Frankie and practicing yoga. Tonya recently became a certified yoga teacher.
